Virginity Testing

For women in Indonesia, joining the military is a grueling process. They are subjected to virginity tests, which involve thrusting 2 fingers into a woman’s vagina. This method has no scientific basis. The tests originate from the belief that women should “preserve their virginity before marriage”

This discourages women from applying for the military, spiraling into a bigger issue:

“Only 5-8% of armed forced are female”

Then, fewer rape cases are reported because victims often feel uncomfortable around male officers.
